Academic SELT Product, Route and CEFR Level
Distinguish the UKVI-approved Academic SELT from ordinary LanguageCert Academic and match the B1-C2 product range to current Student, sponsor and course instructions.
Choose first, then prepare the right test
Start with the route's required skills and CEFR level. Four-skill Academic and General tests and the two-skill A1-A2-B1 suite are not interchangeable.
Core concepts
Concept 1
Academic SELT is a secure four-skill test delivered at a SELT test centre; an ordinary Academic result is not automatically interchangeable for immigration evidence.
Exam cue: Check the exact product name, route, sponsor or CAS and course component bands before booking.
Concept 2
The product reports B1-C2, while the Student route and sponsor determine the minimum level and whether a SELT is required.
Exam cue: Separate the test's reporting range from the route's minimum requirement.
Concept 3
Below-degree Student use normally points to B1 and degree-level use to B2, but compliant higher education providers and courses control their own evidence requirements.
Exam cue: Treat Academic SELT, ordinary Academic and other LanguageCert products as distinct booking choices.
Risk pitfalls and guardrails
Booking ordinary LanguageCert Academic when the application requires a SELT Candidate URN.
Guardrail: Use a 15-second safety pause before finalizing your action.
Assuming C2 availability means a route requires C2.
Guardrail: Use a 15-second safety pause before finalizing your action.
Using a generic university requirement instead of the exact sponsor or course instruction.
Guardrail: Use a 15-second safety pause before finalizing your action.

Read the current CAS or sponsor wording before choosing the test.
Secure Centre
Academic SELT is taken in computer format at a secure approved test centre.
