How to prepare for the Flyer ID test

Start with aircraft weight, class and IDs, then apply the people, place, airspace and pre-flight rules to practical scenarios before rehearsing the 40-question format.

Core concepts

Concept 1

The person or organisation responsible for an aircraft that requires an Operator ID must register; an individual operator must be at least 18.

Exam cue: Identify who manages and maintains the aircraft before identifying the operator.

Concept 2

The Operator ID, not the Flyer ID, must be securely labelled on the main body in clear block capitals over 3mm and remain externally visible or easily accessible without tools.

Exam cue: Check label text, size, security, position and accessibility.

Concept 3

UK1, UK2 and UK3 aircraft must have the operator's Remote ID entered and the Remote ID function switched on when flown from 1 January 2026.

Exam cue: For UK1-UK3, verify both Remote ID configuration and active transmission before flight.

Risk pitfalls and guardrails

Using the flyer's ID as the aircraft label.

Guardrail: Do not confuse Flyer ID with Operator ID, treat a legal minimum as universally safe, or extend points 37-39 into the official test scope.

Putting a tiny label on a removable accessory.

Guardrail: Do not confuse Flyer ID with Operator ID, treat a legal minimum as universally safe, or extend points 37-39 into the official test scope.

Assuming the factory Remote ID feature works without entering the operator's Remote ID.

Guardrail: Do not confuse Flyer ID with Operator ID, treat a legal minimum as universally safe, or extend points 37-39 into the official test scope.

Memory anchors

Operator Age

An individual must be 18 or over to register as an operator.

Label the Operator ID

Never label the aircraft with the Flyer ID.

Label Standard

Use secure block capitals taller than 3mm on the main body.

Accessible Label

It must be visible outside or in a compartment opened without tools.

One ID, Many Aircraft

The same Operator ID may label every aircraft managed by that operator.

UK1-UK3 Remote ID

Enter the operator's Remote ID and switch the function on for every flight.

Checkpoint rule

Do the check-up only after you can summarize each concept in one sentence and identify one dangerous pitfall from memory.

Knowledge Check (after reading)

Short check-up to confirm understanding of this module.

Check-up Questions

1-2 question checkpoint
