Identify purpose, audience, form, viewpoint, theme and exact task wording in Cymraeg before using the English explanation.
3. Select exact Welsh evidence
Choose a relevant quotation, scene, film choice, poetic feature, stimulus detail or spoken contribution and retain its Welsh wording.

FAQ
Common WJEC GCSE Cymraeg Language and Literature questions
Is this an official WJEC resource?
No. This is an independent guide aligned to current public WJEC documents. The live specification, annual or biennial tasks, assessment packs, text choices and centre instructions remain authoritative.
Why are the interface and explanations in English?
The en-standalone track uses English navigation and learning explanations. It does not change the subject being assessed: Welsh texts, quotations, linguistic features, discussion, presentations and written responses remain in Cymraeg.
Who is this qualification for?
It is the Qualifications Wales-regulated Made-for-Wales GCSE Cymraeg Language and Literature and is not available to centres in England. It is distinct from Core Cymraeg and English Language and Literature.
What is the difference between Single and Double Award?
Both routes take Units 1, 2 and 3. Single Award adds Unit 4a. Double Award instead takes Unit 4b and adds Units 5 and 6. Route percentages must not be combined, and Unit 4a cannot be used for a Double Award cash-in.
Are the qualifications tiered?
No. Both are unitised and untiered. Single Award reports A* to G; Double Award reports paired grades from A*A* to GG, with U below the minimum award standard.
Which novel is assessed in Unit 1?
A learner studies one of six Welsh novels: #Helynt, Jac, Llechi, Llyfr Glas Nebo, O Ran or Tom. Centres may choose different novels for different cohorts, so this guide teaches transferable skills and records every option without binding a learner to one.
How does Unit 2 Identity work?
Centres select a visual text of at least one hour. Learners discuss identity, narrative, characters, themes, film techniques and Welsh dialogue in a group of three for up to 15 minutes, responding to the correct WJEC question for the series.
What is assessed in Unit 3 Attitudes?
Task 1 is a 500-1,500 word Welsh appreciation and comparison of poems responding to a WJEC-set theme. The studied set has at least six poems, at least three poets, twentieth- and twenty-first-century poets, and strict, free and vers libre metre. Task 2 is an individual researched Welsh presentation of up to five minutes.
How do Units 4a and 4b differ?
Both assess varied Welsh reading, analysis, synthesis, editing and purposeful writing. Unit 4a is a 90-minute, 60-mark Single Award paper with one writing task chosen from two. Unit 4b is a two-hour, 90-mark Double Award paper with two writing tasks: one mandatory and one selected from two.
What does Unit 5 assess?
Double Award candidates respond to annual WJEC printed stimuli in a Welsh group discussion of up to ten minutes, then create a connected 500-1,000 word Welsh blog, diary, portrayal, script, story or soliloquy under the current NEA controls.
Which texts are compulsory for Unit 6?
Double Award candidates study Plant by Dylan Iorwerth, Torri Arferiad? by Gwenno Davies and Yr Wy by Caryl Lewis. The paper supplies an extract from one unannounced story and requires comparison with a literary or non-literary text.
What is the terminal rule?
Pre-16 candidates must complete at least 30% of the qualification in the cash-in series, including an examination. Post-16 candidates have no terminal rule. Resit and Double-to-Single conversion rules differ, so current WJEC entry guidance should be checked.
Can static practice reproduce a full mock?
No. Static practice cannot reproduce centre-selected texts, authenticated group and individual oracy, controlled written work, annual stimuli or current WJEC task controls. Full-mock mode is therefore disabled.
Are all 601 practice questions included?
Yes. The bank contains 601 original route-aware multiple-choice questions across common Units 1-3, Single Award Unit 4a and Double Award Units 4b-6. It trains reading, language, comparison, planning and analysis without presenting static practice as authenticated oracy, controlled writing or a live WJEC task.
