UCAT 2026 testing runs from 13 July to 24 September 2026 and the result is valid only for the 2027 UCAS admissions cycle, including deferred 2028 entry. Check the exact university course requirements before booking and use current official statistics when choosing where to apply.

How to prepare for the current UCAT
Use the four-subtest ability map, practise the current response formats and reserve official UCAT materials for authentic timing and interface rehearsal.

Identify the exact claim, conclusion, quantity, action or factor the stem asks you to judge.
2. Model the evidence
Anchor to passage lines, diagram the rules, label data and units, or identify role, risk and stakeholders.
3. Choose the operation
Apply the relevant inference test, logical constraint, numerical relationship or professional principle.
4. Check the boundary
Audit scope, assumptions, units, magnitude, safety, proportionality and whether options must be rated independently.
5. Decide and move
Select the supported response, flag uncertainty if appropriate and protect time for the remaining subtest.

Common UCAT questions
Is this an official UCAT Consortium resource?
No. This is an independent study guide. The UCAT Consortium test-format page, question tutorials, practice tests and current-cycle notices remain authoritative.
What are the current UCAT subtests?
The current test has four separately timed subtests in order: Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making, Quantitative Reasoning and Situational Judgement. Abstract Reasoning is not part of the current test.
How long is the standard UCAT?
The standard test lasts 117 minutes 30 seconds: 111 minutes of subtest time plus 6 minutes 30 seconds across four separately timed instruction screens. Once the standard test starts it cannot be paused.
How is Verbal Reasoning structured?
Verbal Reasoning contains 44 questions in 22 minutes. The official format uses eleven passages with four questions each, and candidates answer only from the information provided rather than prior knowledge.
What response formats appear in Decision Making?
Decision Making contains 35 questions in 37 minutes. Some are single-answer multiple choice; others ask for yes or no responses to five statements. A basic non-scientific onscreen calculator is available.
What does Quantitative Reasoning assess?
Quantitative Reasoning contains 36 questions in 26 minutes and assesses numerical problem solving rather than calculation alone. Questions commonly refer to charts and graphs, and the basic onscreen calculator is available.
Does Situational Judgement require medical knowledge?
No. The 69 questions use hypothetical clinical or educational scenarios, with up to six questions per scenario, but the official guidance says medical and procedural knowledge is not required.
How are the cognitive subtests scored?
Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making and Quantitative Reasoning each produce a scaled score from 300 to 900. Their sum is 900 to 2700. There is no negative marking. Decision Making multiple-statement items can earn partial raw credit.
How is Situational Judgement scored?
SJT is reported separately from Band 1, the highest, to Band 4. Exact matches receive full credit and close responses can receive partial credit. The band is not added to the 900-to-2700 cognitive total.
What changed in 2025?
Abstract Reasoning was withdrawn. UCAT retained Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making and Quantitative Reasoning as the three cognitive subtests, allocated additional time to them, increased Decision Making to 35 questions and changed the cognitive total to 900-2700.
Did the test change again in 2026?
No test-format change is announced for 2026. UCAT introduced a new candidate registration system, but its official returning-candidates guidance explicitly says the test itself remains unchanged.
Can scores be compared directly across years?
Use caution. The 2025 structure is not directly comparable with the earlier Abstract Reasoning structure, and means, deciles and percentiles can shift each year. Use statistics for the exact test cycle rather than a fixed commercial cutoff.
Why is a full UCAT mock disabled in this guide?
The current Pass Harbor question framework does not faithfully reproduce four separately timed subtests, UCAT navigation, mixed one- and two-mark Decision Making items, SJT partial-credit banding and the exact 117-minute-30-second flow. Use official UCAT practice tests for full simulation.
