FAQ
Common National 5 Business Management questions
Is this an official Qualifications Scotland resource?
No. It is an independent study resource aligned to the current public specification. Qualifications Scotland documents, notices and your centre’s instructions remain authoritative.
What changed for National 5 Business Management from session 2026–27?
The question paper was reduced from 90 to 70 marks and from 2 hours to 1 hour 30 minutes. Section 1 now has one 20-mark stimulus question instead of two. Section 2 remains five 10-mark questions. The 30-mark assignment is now scaled to 20 marks.
How is the current question paper structured?
Section 1 is one mandatory 20-mark question based on stimulus about a real organisation; sub-questions can be worth 1–5 marks and sample any course area. Section 2 contains five mandatory 10-mark questions, one for each area, with sub-questions worth 1–4 marks.
What are the five areas of study?
Understanding Business, Management of Marketing, Management of Operations, Management of People and Management of Finance. The question paper and assignment may draw on any mandatory content listed under them.
How should I use case-study information?
Identify the relevant business concept, select precise stimulus evidence and explain the consequence for the organisation or stakeholder. Do not merely copy case text or give generic theory when application is required.
What does the assignment involve?
Candidates research a business topic and organisation, evaluate their methods and sources, present findings with analysis or interpretation, and draw justified conclusions or recommendations in an appropriately formatted report. The candidate’s work is individual and externally marked.
How are the assignment’s 30 raw marks distributed?
The current task gives 4 marks for background information, 6 for research methods and sources, 12 for findings, analysis and interpretation, 6 for conclusions or recommendations, and 2 for collating and reporting.
What are the assignment limits?
Candidates have up to 5 hours for research and report production. The final report is limited to 1,300 words excluding no more than two A4 pages of appendices, and must use the approved submission template.
Can the August 2024 specimen be used as a current-format mock?
No. It remains useful for content and response-style practice, but it has 90 marks, two Section 1 cases and a two-hour duration. The current paper has 70 marks and one Section 1 stimulus in 1 hour 30 minutes.
What does the 601-question practice bank cover?
The bank covers all five official areas through original concept, scenario, data and calculation questions. It also tests case-analysis and assignment rules, but multiple-choice practice does not reproduce or replace the individually researched written assignment.
Why is full-mock mode disabled?
The authentic assessment uses extended written responses, real-organisation stimulus, financial working and an externally marked report. Use current official materials for exact timing, presentation and marking practice.
