Common NEBOSH Construction UK questions
What is the current unit structure?
The current NEBOSH Health and Safety Management for Construction (UK) qualification has one unit: CN1 Managing construction safely. It is a standalone qualification and units from other NEBOSH qualifications cannot be substituted.
Is CN1 a multiple-choice examination?
No. CN1 is a written, scenario-based digital open-book examination. Learners complete theoretical and practical application tasks and a scenario-based risk assessment.
How long is the CN1 assessment?
The paper is available for 48 hours from 11:00 UK time on the published date. Learners may stop and resume within that window; the Learning Partner guide assigns eight notional assessment hours.
What is the pass mark?
The published pass mark is provisional at 45 percent. The qualification grades are Pass 45-64, Credit 65-74 and Distinction 75 or higher.
What does the scenario-based risk assessment require?
The public sample shows a construction activity analysed through specific hazards, existing controls, additional controls and justified priorities. Live tasks vary, so preparation should develop evidence-based risk judgement rather than memorise the sample.
How should written answers use the scenario?
Where instructed, each technical point should be connected to relevant scenario evidence. Lists or single words generally do not demonstrate the explanation, application or connection needed for marks.
How many syllabus elements are there?
There are 13 elements: management foundations; culture and risk; change and procedures; excavation; demolition; plant and vehicles; work at height; musculoskeletal health; work equipment; electricity; fire; chemical and biological agents; and physical and psychological health.
Does NEBOSH publish element question counts or mark weights?
No fixed element item totals or mark weights are published. The Learning Partner guide publishes suggested teaching hours that total 70. This guide labels its 601 planning allocation as non-official.
Is there a separate workplace practical unit?
No. The current UK construction qualification has the single CN1 OBE. Its scenario-based risk assessment exercise is part of that fictional-site assessment, not a separate workplace submission.
Can a learner self-study without a Learning Partner?
No. NEBOSH's current qualification page says every learner must register with an accredited Learning Partner and undertake the relevant learning before assessment.
Which law boundary does this guide use?
The guide uses the Great Britain framework reflected in the current CN syllabus, including CDM 2015 and HSE guidance. It does not present CDM 2015 as Northern Ireland law.
Why is full mock mode disabled?
A fixed single-choice mock would misrepresent a 48-hour written scenario assessment. Topic and case-study practice support underpinning knowledge but do not reproduce CN1 tasks, answer templates or marking.
