Concept 1
If a DSC distress alert is sent accidentally, reset or stop repeated transmission as the equipment permits, then make an immediate voice cancellation on Channel 16.
Exam cue: Know the model-specific stop or reset procedure before the radio is put into service.
Concept 2
The cancellation identifies the vessel, call sign and MMSI, gives position and time, states that the distress alert was sent in error and cancels it.
Exam cue: Cancel promptly and clearly even if the alert was brief or no response has yet been heard.
Concept 3
Training must use non-radiating training radios, simulator modes or approved test procedures; a live distress alert is never a classroom demonstration.
Exam cue: Inform the Coastguard of the cause and remain available for confirmation.
