Start with the route's required skills and CEFR level. Four-skill Academic and General tests and the two-skill A1-A2-B1 suite are not interchangeable.

Concept 1

Role play tests whether the candidate can perform a practical communicative function, not merely produce related vocabulary.

Some exchanges require initiation, so the candidate must recognise when to open the conversation.

Exam cue: Use a clear functional phrase, then add the necessary detail.

Concept 3

Requesting, accepting, declining, clarifying and arranging should fit the relationship and situation.

Exam cue: Listen to the interlocutor's reply and adjust rather than repeating the plan.

Describing what you would say instead of acting out the exchange.
