Choose first, then prepare the right test
Start with the route's required skills and CEFR level. Four-skill Academic and General tests and the two-skill A1-A2-B1 suite are not interchangeable.
Core concepts
Concept 1
Academic SELT reports each skill on the 0-100 Global Scale and reports B1-C2 outcomes.
Exam cue: Track Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking separately against the controlling route and course requirement.
Concept 2
Current UKVI tables use at least 40 per required skill for B1, 60 for B2 and 75 for C1; an overall result cannot compensate for a low required skill.
Exam cue: Preserve the exact Candidate URN from the Test Report.
Concept 3
The Candidate URN enables secure verification, and SELT evidence must be approved, taken at an approved location and awarded within two years before application.
Exam cue: Check the application date, approved location and current provider list rather than relying on a certificate alone.
