LO3 Analyse the Client and Available Options
Analyse the client’s integrated financial position, quantify weaknesses or gaps and compare the respective advantages and disadvantages of appropriate options.
How to prepare for R06
Complete broad R01-R05 revision first, then use the two-week pre-release window to map each client’s facts, gaps, calculations and possible solutions before practising concise mark-led answers.
Core concepts
Concept 1
Analysis applies current R01-R05 law, tax, product and planning knowledge to the client’s actual cash flow, balance sheet, protection, pensions, investments and objectives.
Exam cue: Quantify the present position and shortfall before proposing an action.
Concept 2
A weakness may concern adequacy, suitability, tax efficiency, risk, liquidity, ownership, beneficiary route, cost, flexibility, documentation or future resilience.
Exam cue: Match each weakness to an objective, consequence and feasible response.
Concept 3
Option comparison must cover client-specific benefits, drawbacks, tax, risk, cost, access, time horizon, implementation and interaction with existing arrangements.
Exam cue: Compare at least the features that actually distinguish the options for this client.
Risk pitfalls and guardrails
Giving textbook product features without applying them to the case-study facts.
Guardrail: Do not reproduce generic R01-R05 facts, repeat case details without analysis or give an unquantified product name without client-specific justification.
Identifying a tax saving without calculating the rate, amount or effect where figures allow.
Guardrail: Do not reproduce generic R01-R05 facts, repeat case details without analysis or give an unquantified product name without client-specific justification.
Presenting only advantages or ignoring how one action affects another objective.
Guardrail: Do not reproduce generic R01-R05 facts, repeat case details without analysis or give an unquantified product name without client-specific justification.
