The Big Bang model describes an expanding, cooling Universe in which particles, nuclei, atoms, stars and galaxies formed over time.
Exam cue: Confirm the CCEA unit, tier and whether the task tests a model, calculation, explanation or practical judgement.

Red shift of distant-galaxy spectra provides evidence that galaxies are receding and space is expanding.
Exam cue: Separate observations from the model they support, avoid describing expansion from a central point and show time conversion in light-year calculations.

A light year is a distance, found from light speed multiplied by one year, not a measure of time.

Calling a light year a time unit or saying red shift means light literally changes colour because a galaxy cools.
