Privacy, Camera Capability and Visible Responsibility
Drone Code points 21-23. Respecting expectations of privacy, understanding camera or listening equipment and being identifiable while flying.
How to prepare for the Flyer ID test
Start with aircraft weight, class and IDs, then apply the people, place, airspace and pre-flight rules to practical scenarios before rehearsing the 40-question format.
Core concepts
Concept 1
Camera or listening-device use must respect privacy, especially where people can reasonably expect privacy in homes or gardens.
Exam cue: Consider what people can reasonably expect in the place being recorded.
Concept 2
The flyer should understand image quality, zoom and recording controls to reduce unintended collection.
Exam cue: Check the camera field of view and recording state before take-off.
Concept 3
Being clearly visible while flying helps people identify who is responsible for the aircraft.
Exam cue: Choose a pilot position that supports both safe control and visible accountability.
Risk pitfalls and guardrails
Assuming anything visible from the air is free to record and use.
Guardrail: Do not confuse Flyer ID with Operator ID, treat a legal minimum as universally safe, or extend points 37-39 into the official test scope.
Leaving automatic recording active without understanding its scope.
Guardrail: Do not confuse Flyer ID with Operator ID, treat a legal minimum as universally safe, or extend points 37-39 into the official test scope.
Hiding from view to avoid questions from people nearby.

Memory anchors
Privacy Expectation
Homes and gardens are places where people commonly expect privacy.
Camera Knowledge
Know resolution, zoom, field of view and how to start or stop recording.
Listening Device
Audio capture can raise the same privacy concerns as images.
Lawful Purpose
Never record for criminal or terrorist purposes.
Data Protection
Photos, video and sound may be covered by data-protection law.
Be Visible
Fly from a position where people can see who is responsible.
Checkpoint rule
Do the check-up only after you can summarize each concept in one sentence and identify one dangerous pitfall from memory.
Knowledge Check (after reading)
Short check-up to confirm understanding of this module.
Check-up Questions
