How to prepare for the Flyer ID test
Start with aircraft weight, class and IDs, then apply the people, place, airspace and pre-flight rules to practical scenarios before rehearsing the 40-question format.
Core concepts
Concept 1
An observer must stand next to the remote pilot and remain able to communicate throughout the flight.
Exam cue: Check physical proximity and continuous communication before treating someone as the observer.
Concept 2
At least one of the pilot and observer must continuously keep the aircraft in direct sight and maintain a full view of the surrounding airspace.
Exam cue: For FPV, confirm that the observer supplies the required direct view.
Concept 3
The observer does not need a Flyer ID, but must understand what to watch for; the remote pilot remains responsible for safety.
Exam cue: Brief the observer on aircraft, people, airspace and the words that trigger immediate action.
