About the exam
PCV Driver CPC Part 2 Exam structure
An independent Great Britain study guide for the DVSA PCV Driver CPC Part 2 computer-based case-study test, organised around current source books and the passenger-vehicle objectives in the public Driver CPC syllabus.
Issuer and path
PCV Driver CPC Part 2 Case Studies Study Guide is administered through Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA). Check official resources before booking, retesting, or relying on a stale requirement.
Driver CPC Part 2: PCV Case Studies
50 scored + 0 pretest
Seven computer-based work-life case studies with 50 multiple-choice questions in 75 minutes; at least 40 correct answers are required.
Before booking Part 2
Confirm that this is the PCV passenger-vehicle route and that the relevant provisional licence is in place. Part 1 is not a booking prerequisite, but Part 2 must remain valid when Part 4 is completed. Returning drivers and LGV-PCV conversion candidates should confirm the correct route before booking.

How to use this guide
How to prepare for Part 2 case studies
Combine passenger, accessibility, vehicle, route, service, time, document and operator facts before selecting the safest lawful action; carry each decision forward through the rest of the narrative.
Read the full narrative
Capture passenger needs, accessibility, timing, vehicle, route, service, operator instruction and document facts.
Protect people first
Control immediate road, vehicle and passenger risk before dealing with timetable, cost or customer pressure.
Classify the service and rules
Determine the applicable hours, passenger, accessibility, vehicle and operator duties from the supplied facts.
Choose a workable action
The answer must be safe, lawful, accessible where required, possible with available resources and professionally communicated.
Carry the consequence forward
A passenger need, delay, break, defect, reroute, report or refusal can change what is possible later in the same case.
Check the exact question
Answer the question asked from the complete narrative without inventing missing facts or an unpublished interaction format.
Torque, Power and Engine-speed Bands
Interpret torque, power and specific-consumption information as practical clues about the useful engine-speed range.
Key rules
Rule 1
Interpret torque, power and specific-consumption information as practical clues about the useful engine-speed range.
Exam cue: Read the complete case narrative before choosing the rule or action.
Rule 2
Relate gradient, passenger load and traffic to an operating range that preserves smooth control without avoidable fuel use.
Exam cue: Relate gradient, passenger load and traffic to an operating range that preserves smooth control without avoidable fuel use.
Rule 3
Use the vehicle manufacturer's information; general principles do not override the stated limits of the bus or coach.
Exam cue: Check how the decision affects passengers, driver, vehicle, route, service and records.
Common traps
Choosing the highest engine speed merely because the vehicle is full or climbing.
Prevention: Do not answer from one familiar phrase while ignoring passenger, accessibility or service facts in the linked narrative.
Answering from one remembered rule before checking all supplied facts.
Prevention: Do not answer from one familiar phrase while ignoring passenger, accessibility or service facts in the linked narrative.
Treating the internal study allocation as an official topic weighting.
Prevention: Do not answer from one familiar phrase while ignoring passenger, accessibility or service facts in the linked narrative.
Memory anchors
Useful Band, Not Red Line
Use the efficient working range rather than chasing maximum revolutions.
Smooth Power Protects Passengers
Progressive power delivery helps standing and seated passengers remain stable.
Torque, Power and Engine-speed Bands: Read the Case
Use every relevant passenger, vehicle, route, time and service fact before deciding.
Torque, Power and Engine-speed Bands: Carry It Forward
Check how the decision changes safety, legality and the remaining journey.
Next best moves
Quick check-up
Use a short quiz to confirm the rule pattern is actually sticking.
Check-up Questions
In the Rivergate case, what is Nadia's best use of the engine's useful torque band when leaving a busy stop?
Rivergate is full and climbing a gradient. Why may a lower ratio be needed sooner than on an empty run?
Answer all questions to submit.

FAQ
Common PCV Driver CPC Part 2 questions
Is this an official DVSA product?
No. It is an independent study guide aligned to current public DVSA and GOV.UK material. DVSA controls eligibility, booking, delivery, scoring and results.
How does the current PCV Part 2 test work?
You work through seven short workplace case studies on a computer. The live test has 50 multiple-choice questions in 75 minutes, with between 5 and 10 questions attached to each case. You need 40 correct answers to pass.
Are detailed live PCV question interactions published?
The current GOV.UK PCV service page publicly describes multiple-choice questions but does not specify a more detailed interaction mix. This guide therefore does not infer audio, hotspot, single-response or multiple-response allocations.
Must Part 1 be passed before Part 2?
No. Current GOV.UK guidance says Part 2 can be booked once the relevant provisional licence is held; Part 1 does not have to be passed first.
What happens after passing Part 2?
The result letter contains the reference needed to book Part 4, the practical demonstration. The Part 2 pass letter is valid for two years, and Part 4 must be passed in that window or Part 2 has to be passed again.
What is the official study basis?
DVSA lists The Highway Code, Know your traffic signs and The Official DVSA Guide to Driving Buses and Coaches. The official PCV Part 2 case-study product is an additional revision option.
Is the public Driver CPC syllabus a scored Part 2 blueprint?
No public fixed Part 2 topic weighting is claimed. The GOV.UK syllabus page explicitly governs periodic-training content. This guide uses its 15 objectives applicable to passenger-carrying vehicle licences as a transparent coverage taxonomy alongside the three books that DVSA names for Part 2.
Why are passenger comfort and accessibility prominent?
PCV-specific public objectives cover passenger comfort, safe loading, passenger-service rules and the passenger-transport environment. Current Great Britain guidance also places duties around accessible vehicles, information and assistance on relevant services. The exact rule still depends on the vehicle and service facts.
Which drivers' hours rules apply to a PCV case?
Classify the journey first. The applicable rules can depend on passenger seating, whether a regular service route exceeds 50 kilometres, whether the service is regular or non-regular and whether it is domestic or international. Never import one hours regime before reading those facts.
How should a linked case study be answered?
Read the full narrative, identify the passengers, accessibility needs, vehicle, route, service, time, documents and operator instructions, then test each option against those facts. Carry earlier facts and consequences into later questions unless the narrative changes them.
Does this slug include Driver CPC Part 1?
No. PCV Part 1a multiple choice and Part 1b hazard perception remain in the separately tracked dvsa-pcv-theory module. Parts 3a, 3b and 4 are practical assessments and are outside this written asset set.
Does every bus or coach licence holder need Part 2?
No. Full Driver CPC is normally required when driving a bus or coach as the main part of a job, but current exemptions and particular return-to-driving or training routes can change what is required. Licence entitlement and Driver CPC are separate questions.
Is this the LGV Part 2 test or conversion test?
No. This slug is for the passenger-vehicle case-study route. The LGV case-study route and the conversion test used when moving between LGV and PCV professional qualifications remain separate.
Does passing Part 2 replace periodic training?
No. After qualification, Driver CPC is normally maintained with 35 hours of periodic training every five years. Some eligible returning drivers can choose Parts 2 and 4 once instead of a specified training route, but that does not turn Part 2 into recurring periodic training.
Why is a full mock disabled?
The current framework cannot faithfully assemble exactly seven linked workplace narratives and preserve every dependency across 50 questions. Case-study practice remains available without claiming a live-test replica.
What happens after a failed attempt?
Current GOV.UK guidance allows another test to be booked immediately, but it cannot be taken for another three clear working days.
