FAQ
Common CISI Introduction UK questions
Is this an official CISI course or question bank?
No. It is an independent study guide mapped to CISI's qualification page, live exam details, official syllabuses, sample paper, candidate updates and professional Code of Conduct.
Which syllabus applies on 29 July 2026?
Version 25 remains current through 31 July 2026. Version 26 starts on 1 August 2026 and should not be treated as the controlling syllabus for an earlier exam, even though it is already published.
What changes between versions 25 and 26?
The 11 elements, their 50-question allocation and the assessment structure are unchanged. Version 26 mainly clarifies wording or classification: robo advice is listed with distribution channels, AGM is expanded, government-bond and derivatives-writer wording is tidied, and the financial-crime sentence is recast.
What are the official element allocations?
Introduction 3; Economic Environment 4; Equities 9; Bonds 7; Other Markets and Investments 4; Derivatives 4; Investment Funds 6; Financial Services Regulation 4; Taxation, Investment Wrappers and Trusts 4; Other Financial Products 2; Financial Advice 3. CISI notes that individual papers can vary slightly to maintain consistent difficulty.
How do trial questions affect the examination?
A computer-based test may include up to 10% additional questions. They are not separately identified and do not contribute to the result; CISI states that proportionately more time is provided.
What score is needed to pass?
The live CISI exam service publishes a 70% pass mark. The current sample paper translates that to 35–45 marks for a pass and 46–50 for pass with merit.
What UK regulatory material is in scope?
Element 8 covers the UK government and regulatory-authority environment, post-Brexit change, the need for regulation and authorisation, CISI's Code of Conduct, Consumer Duty, financial crime, market abuse, the Data Protection Act 2018, complaints, FOS and FSCS. Element 9 adds introductory tax, ISA, pension, residence, domicile and trust coverage.
Is this the same as the CISI UK Financial Regulation exam?
No. This examination gives a four-question foundation overview of regulation. UK Financial Regulation is a separate IOC regulatory unit with its own slug, syllabus and examination structure; regulated-role candidates following the IOC route are generally advised to take both an introductory unit and the separate regulatory unit plus a relevant technical unit.
Which compensation, ISA and tax figures should I learn?
Use the candidate update applicable to the syllabus and exam date. CISI's published version-26 update includes revised FSCS deposit and investment figures and time-dependent ISA information. This guide keeps thresholds version-dated rather than presenting one value as timeless.
Why do some version-25 PDF footers display an older version number?
The official file's cover, effective-date page, examination-specification page and live exam attachment record identify it as version 25, but several interior footers still show version 24. This guide treats those footer labels as a publication artifact and follows the controlling cover and official effective dates.
Does the CISI Code of Conduct replace law or FCA rules?
No. The Code is a professional framework requiring members to support ethical duties and underlying values in addition to complying with applicable law and regulation. It does not grant authorisation or displace statutory requirements.
Does the ESMA/MiFID II compliant label authorise someone to advise?
No. CISI presents the qualification as compliant and suitable as a foundation exam, but passing it does not by itself grant FCA permissions, firm competence sign-off or authority to provide regulated advice.
What does passing the standalone exam provide?
It earns the CISI Level 3 Award for Introduction to Investment and makes the learner eligible for Affiliate membership. The exam is also the introductory unit of the IOC, but one pass alone does not complete that three-unit certificate.
Is the 601-item allocation an official CISI specification?
No. CISI specifies a 50-question paper. This independent 601-item bank scales the 11-element weighting for practice and does not reproduce official sample questions, trial questions or live exam content.
