Is this an official CIPS course or examination?

Which Level 5 modules are compulsory?

The five core modules are L5M1 Managing Teams and Individuals, L5M2 Managing Supply Chain Risk, L5M3 Managing Contractual Risk, L5M4 Advanced Contract and Financial Management, and L5M5 Managing Ethical Procurement and Supply. Together they provide 42 credits.

Which electives can I choose?

Choose any three six-credit electives from L5M6 Category Management, L5M7 Achieving Competitive Advantage Through the Supply Chain, L5M8 Project and Change Management, L5M9 Operations Management, L5M10 Logistics Management, and L5M15 Advanced Negotiation.

Why does this guide contain 11 modules when the award requires eight?

The official route combines all five core modules with three of six electives. This guide preserves every elective syllabus so it can support any valid route. A candidate completes eight modules, not all 11.

How are L5M1 and L5M4 assessed?

Both are closed-book constructed-response exams with four essay-style questions, a three-hour limit and a 50% pass mark. The specification assigns 25 marks to each L5M4 question. Its L5M1 row states 20 marks for each of four questions, producing an unusual 80-mark total; this guide preserves that published value rather than silently changing it.

How are the objective-response modules assessed?

Current CIPS module pages publish 46 questions and 90 minutes for every OR module. The specification identifies multiple-choice and multiple-response one-mark items plus two short scenarios containing eight one-mark items each. The pass mark is 70%.

How are questions distributed across learning outcomes?

The current public sources publish module totals but not a learning-outcome split. For navigation only, this guide normalises a three-outcome OR module to 16, 15 and 15 items, a two-outcome OR module to 23 and 23, and each four-outcome CR module to one question per outcome. These are not official CIPS weightings.

Why does the guide use five core modules when some module pages say four?

The current qualification page, full syllabus and specification consistently require five core modules and three electives. Some current module-page selector text still says four core modules and one page labels L5M1 as elective; those interface labels conflict with the governing qualification documents, so this guide uses the five-core structure.

Are the elective modules CR or OR?

The current full specification assigns objective response to all six electives. Some elective module pages display both CR and OR badges in the same summary panel, but their 46-question, 90-minute detail and the specification support OR. This guide therefore treats the electives as OR.

How much study time should I plan?

CIPS publishes total qualification time of 600 hours: 250 guided learning hours, 335 recommended additional self-study hours and 15 assessment hours. The specification's L5M1 row prints 37 self-study hours, which does not reconcile to either its 120 module hours or the qualification total; the published totals imply 67.

What changed in the current syllabus?

The current qualification page says environmental, social and governance content was introduced into the syllabus in 2025. The current March 2026 syllabus file expands L5M5 around ESG impact, compliance, initiatives and standards, and also embeds ESG risk and performance considerations elsewhere.

When can I take the exams?

The current qualification page states that five exam opportunities are available each year. Exact dates, booking windows, module availability, locations and remote-invigilation arrangements are operational details, so check the live CIPS exam schedule and MyCIPS before booking.

Does this guide provide an exact full mock?

No. The award uses eight separately assessed modules, includes a three-from-six elective choice, mixes constructed and objective response, and uses different pass marks. The current Pass Harbor framework can support coverage and future practice but does not reproduce this entire route and marking model as one exact mock.

Are the 601 practice allocations official CIPS weightings?

No. The completed bank assigns 421 questions to the five mandatory core modules and 30 questions to each of the six alternative electives, giving 601 across the full asset. This is an internal learning allocation, not an official CIPS learning-outcome weighting. Every item is an original single-answer knowledge or decision question; the L5M1 and L5M4 items support analytical preparation but do not simulate constructed-response marking.
