Is this an official CIPS course or examination?
No. This is an independent study resource aligned to CIPS's public qualification, syllabus and assessment information. It is not endorsed by CIPS and does not reproduce secure live examination questions.
What are the eight compulsory Level 4 modules?
They are L4M1 Scope and Influence of Procurement and Supply, L4M2 Defining Business Need, L4M3 Commercial Contracting, L4M4 Ethical and Responsible Sourcing, L4M5 Commercial Negotiation, L4M6 Supplier Relationships, L4M7 Whole Life Asset Management, and L4M8 Procurement and Supply in Practice.
Which modules use constructed response?
L4M1 and L4M8 are closed-book constructed-response examinations. Each contains four essay-style questions worth 25 marks, lasts three hours and has a 50% pass mark. The specification grades these module results as distinction at 75-100%, merit at 60-74%, pass at 50-59% and fail below 50%.
Which modules use objective response?
L4M2 through L4M7 are closed-book objective-response examinations. Each contains 60 questions, lasts 90 minutes and has a 70% pass mark. Current CIPS module pages identify multiple-choice and multiple-response as the applicable one-mark formats.
How are questions distributed across learning outcomes?
The current public Level 4 specification publishes the total number of learning outcomes and the module format, while current module pages publish four CR questions for L4M1 and L4M8 and 60 OR questions for each other module. They do not publish an OR question split by learning outcome. This guide therefore normalises each three-outcome OR module to 20 items per outcome for navigation only; it is not an official CIPS weighting.
Why should L4M8 be studied last?
CIPS describes L4M8 as a summary module and strongly recommends taking it last. It requires integrated workplace application of the procurement cycle, financial and cost analysis, whole-life asset management and ESG principles developed across L4M1-L4M7.
What are the Level 4 entry requirements?
The December 2023 specification states at least two A-levels or international equivalent, the CIPS Level 3 Advanced Certificate in Procurement and Supply Operations, or at least two years of relevant experience in a business environment. Exemptions may apply under the current CIPS policy.
Which qualification accreditation number is correct?
The current CIPS qualification web page prints 603/3294/X, but the current linked December 2023 CIPS specification and the UK government's qualification record both identify the award as 603/3924/X. This guide uses 603/3924/X and records the webpage transposition rather than silently reproducing it.
How much study time should I plan?
CIPS sets total qualification time at 600 hours: 250 guided learning hours, 335 recommended additional self-study hours and 15 exam hours. L4M1 and L4M8 each represent 120 module-learning hours; L4M2 through L4M7 each represent 60.
When can I sit the exams?
The current qualification page says there are five exam opportunities each year. Exact dates, module availability, booking windows, locations and remote-invigilation arrangements are operational details, so check the live CIPS exam schedule and MyCIPS before booking.
Does this guide provide an exact full mock?
No. The qualification consists of eight separately assessed modules, mixes constructed and objective responses, uses different pass marks and requires written judgement in L4M1 and L4M8. The current Pass Harbor framework can support coverage and future OR practice but does not reproduce this entire assessment and marking model as one exact mock.
Are the 601 practice-question allocations official CIPS weightings?
No. This independent bank uses a credit-weighted study allocation: 120 questions for L4M1, 60 for each six-credit module and 121 for L4M8. Public CIPS materials do not publish objective-response weights by learning outcome. Every item here is a single-answer knowledge or applied-judgement question; the L4M1 and L4M8 items support preparation but do not simulate or claim to mark the official constructed-response assessment.
