How to use this guide

How to study CIMA Strategic Level

Secure E3, P3 and F3 knowledge before practising integrated long-term judgement and professional communication. Static study assets do not reproduce all objective-test interactions or the pre-seen, unseen information, locked written sections and human marking of the Strategic Case Study.

1. Decode the requirement

2. Combine pre-seen and unseen evidence

Select relevant financial, strategic, risk and sustainability evidence, test provenance and perform proportionate analysis or calculations.

3. Analyse and challenge

Explain drivers, alternatives and uncertainty, then consider finance, implementation, ethics, governance and stakeholder effects.

4. Communicate an actionable conclusion

FAQ

Common CIMA Strategic questions

Is this an official AICPA & CIMA study guide?

No. It is an independent resource mapped to AICPA & CIMA's current Strategic Level page, examination blueprints, exam guidance, timetable and qualification-upgrade guidance.

Which assessments make up Strategic Level on the self-tailored route?

E3 Strategic Management, P3 Risk Management and F3 Financial Strategy are three separate objective tests. After all three are passed or valid exemptions are awarded, the Strategic Case Study Examination is the capstone.

Can E3, P3 and F3 be taken in any order?

Yes. CIMA permits any order, although the blueprint recommends E3, then P3, then F3 because the Enterprise pillar provides context for the Performance and Financial pillars.

What is the objective-test format?

Each test has 60 independent, equally marked questions in 90 minutes and is available on demand. Multiple choice, multiple response, fill-in-the-blank number entry and drag-and-drop interactions may be used. All required elements must be correct because partial marks are not available.

When are objective-test results available?

A provisional pass or fail is provided when the computer-marked test is completed. CIMA states that the final grade is normally confirmed on the candidate dashboard within 48 hours, with content-area feedback.

What does the Strategic Case Study simulate?

It simulates the role of a Senior Finance Manager. Candidates combine E3, P3 and F3 knowledge with pre-seen research and new information to produce professional written responses such as emails, memos, reports and briefing notes.

How is the three-hour SCS divided?

There are three equally weighted sections of 60 minutes, each containing more than one sub-task. A candidate may leave a section early but cannot return; the test driver moves automatically to the next section when the hour expires.

How is the SCS marked and passed?

It is human marked on a 0–150 scaled-score range, with 80 or above being a pass. All five core activities are assessed, but there is no separate pass threshold for an individual activity. Results are normally available six to eight weeks after the exam.

What are the five SCS core-activity ranges?

Develop business strategy; evaluate the business ecosystem and business environment; recommend financing strategies; evaluate and mitigate risk; and recommend and maintain a sound control environment. Each has a 15–25% range, so the ranges are not additive fixed percentages.

Why does one table in the 2027–2028 PDF appear to show activity E twice?

The detailed table repeats the activity-E block at its foot, but the same document's role summary, introductory wording and assessment structure all specify five core activities, as does the current blueprint. This guide therefore treats the second E block as a publication duplication, not a sixth activity.

What are the objective-test content weights?

E3 is 15% strategy process, 20% ecosystem analysis, 15% strategic options, 15% strategic choices, 20% strategic control and 15% digital strategy. P3 assigns 25% each to enterprise risk, strategic risk, internal controls and cyber risk. F3 is 15% financial policy, 25% long-term funds, 20% financial risks and 40% business valuation.

Does CIMA prescribe the 27 internal study-topic item counts?

No. CIMA publishes the 14 objective-test content-area percentages and five SCS weighting ranges. The 27-topic grouping and its whole-item splits are internal coverage aids that preserve the official domain totals.

Which blueprint applies on 29 July 2026?

The 2026–2027 blueprint applies to current objective tests and the August and November 2026 and February 2027 SCS windows. The published 2027–2028 successor starts with objective tests in January 2027 and case studies in May 2027.

Does the successor blueprint change the assessment structure or weights?

No. E3, P3 and F3 remain 60-question, 90-minute objective tests; the SCS remains a three-hour, three-section Senior Finance Manager simulation; and all published objective-test percentages and five SCS ranges are unchanged. Version 1.1 records standards-appendix maintenance including IFRS 18 and IFRS 19 and removal of IAS 1.

What did the 2026 qualification upgrade change at Strategic Level?

CIMA identifies sustainability in F3 financing decisions, including green finance, as the Strategic Level emerging-topic update. It also identifies generative AI within E3 digital strategy and competitive advantage. The official upgrade page says these updates appeared in self-tailored objective tests from January 2025 and appear in case studies from May 2026.

How does the Finance Leadership Program pathway differ?

FLP uses continuous assessment instead of separate objective tests, but it converges with the self-tailored route at the Strategic Case Study. Candidates should follow the requirements of their own pathway rather than assuming every route requires separate E3, P3 and F3 bookings.

Does this module reproduce an authentic SCS response?

No. Authentic SCS performance depends on sitting-specific pre-seen and unseen information, locked timed sections, professional written formats and human marking. Use CIMA's test driver, pre-seen, past variants, suggested solutions and examiner reports for format rehearsal.

Is the 601-item plan an official examination specification?

No. It is future coverage metadata split 150 / 150 / 150 / 151. The repository currently has no authored Strategic question bank, and the official assessments remain three objective tests plus one written case study.

What follows successful completion of Strategic Level?

The Strategic Case Study completes the examination component of the CGMA Professional Qualification. Membership and use of the CGMA designation also require completion and approval of the applicable practical-experience requirements.
