Concept 1
The skipper must understand hull, deck, closures, steering, propulsion, fuel, electrical, bilge and fire-protection systems well enough to inspect, operate and respond to failure.
Exam cue: Trace the failure from source to isolation, backup and effect on the passage.
Concept 2
Stability and freeboard are affected by loading, liquid movement, weight aloft, water ingress, icing, sail plan and unsecured gear; apparently small changes can compound offshore.
Exam cue: Identify how weight movement or free surface changes righting ability.
Concept 3
Departure checks should test critical equipment under realistic conditions and confirm spares, tools, isolation points and crew knowledge rather than relying on inventory alone.
