Core concepts
Concept 1
Professional standards combine integrity, competence, care, inclusion, sustainability and public trust with regulator conduct rules and any applicable professional code.
Exam cue: Identify every applicable legal, regulatory, employer and professional standard before comparing options.
Concept 2
Ethical theories and stakeholder analysis help evaluate duties, consequences, fairness, character and conflicts where minimum rules do not determine the best action.
Exam cue: Test who benefits, who bears harm and whether the action would withstand transparent professional scrutiny.
Concept 3
A defensible dilemma process identifies facts and stakeholders, checks law and codes, tests alternatives and conflicts, seeks appropriate challenge, acts and records the reasoning.
Exam cue: For gifts, hospitality or influence, assess intent, value, timing, decision impact, policy and Bribery Act risk.
Risk pitfalls and guardrails
Assuming legality alone proves ethical conduct.
Guardrail: Do not mix annual tax bases, regulator roles, redress schemes, legal capacities or minimum compliance with an ethical outcome.
