How to study for CCEA GCSE Physics
Link every equation to a physical model and unit, interpret graphs and evidence, and prepare each prescribed practical from method through evaluation.
Core concepts
Concept 1
Average speed is total distance divided by total time, while velocity combines rate of motion with direction.
Exam cue: Confirm the CCEA unit, tier and whether the task tests a model, calculation, explanation or practical judgement.
Concept 2
Distance is scalar and displacement is vector, so a journey can have non-zero distance but zero displacement.
Exam cue: Convert every distance and time to compatible SI units, identify the graph axes and calculate a gradient from a large triangle.
Concept 3
The gradient of a distance-time graph gives speed and the gradient of a displacement-time graph gives velocity.
Exam cue: Show substitutions and units, connect evidence to the physical model and limit the conclusion to the stated conditions.

Treating distance and displacement, or speed and velocity, as interchangeable.
