Concept 1
Interaction forces occur as equal and opposite pairs on different objects, while a resultant combines forces on one object.
Exam cue: Confirm the CCEA unit, tier and whether the task tests a model, calculation, explanation or practical judgement.
Concept 2
A non-zero resultant force produces acceleration according to F = ma; zero resultant means constant velocity or rest.
Exam cue: Draw forces on the named object only, choose a positive direction and connect the resultant force to the change in motion.
Concept 3
During a fall, increasing drag can balance weight so the resultant becomes zero and terminal velocity is reached.
Exam cue: Show substitutions and units, connect evidence to the physical model and limit the conclusion to the stated conditions.
